A great number of you will recall Cloud City from Star Wars – Empire Strikes Back. The administrator of Cloud City, Lando Calrissian, and his ability to communicate with a mobile wrist device. Not to mention the holograms, moving objects with the wave of a hand and intergalactic space travel on show elsewhere in the Star Wars universe.
In the information age, science fiction has become science fact. We can scan through data with the wave of hand and have conversations with digital people. Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, is even taking bookings for trips to Mars with Space X.
What does this mean for our social mobility and our work life? Even as I write this on my phone, it’s already being saved to the cloud for someone else to read from their mobile device.
How will this affect our social mobility? With the average person more likely to rent, rather than buy a home, we are looking at a distinct change in the way people live their lives. Creating a generation of movers and shakers. We will be looking for innovation to solve our future accommodation and work life balance. For a perfect example of this, see Bosch’s vision of a driverless reality – Bosch.
Moving living and working may become a common socially accepted norm. New London phone boxes were recently set up as hot-desking spots, offering free calls and Wi-Fi.
We can laugh, or rage, at the new iPhone losing the jack plug in place of what Apple have called AirPods. But it does send a clear message that Apple are looking to go wireless.
Work life if becoming increasingly seamless with Microsoft seeing overwhelming gains in their cloud software. Google has always been cloud-based, however it has recently rebranded and solidified all of its cloud assets into it’s Google Cloud Suite.
At Double Concentrate, we’ve worked alongside Spearhead Interactive to develop our own virtual studio ; see header photo. We soft launched this at the NE Expo event on 16th November with the app available soon from Google & Apple app stores.
We’ve also have invested in the cloud trend, which quickly seemed the best way of sharing information. We have collaborated with SMC, a sotfware development team in Brighton, on a digital solution for businesses which allows their entire leads funnel be available anytime, anywhere. You can find out more at www.leadscloud.co.uk.
With the upcoming Star Wars film in 2018 and a young Lando Calrissian taking to the stage, we’re expecting a fascinating glimpse into our own future.October 27, 2016 12:11 pm Tags: apple, cloud, Design, digital, driverless cars, google cloud, spacex, star wars
